Our Milestones

2015 – today
2015
Kiron is founded
Enrollments kick off following a successful crowdfunding campaign of €500,000. Focus on supporting refugees to access higher education online and potentially transfer to universities.
2016
Kiron moves into its 2nd year
Development of modularized curricula and building a solid infrastructure for offerings. Kiron also wins the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the creative use of information and communication technologies to enhance learning.
2017
Merkel visits Kiron
German Chancellor Angela Merkel visits Kiron. We register as an NGO in Jordan with an expanded objective to support underserved communities. First transfer student, Ahmad, and 50 partner universities from 8 countries.
2018
Expansion to Lebanon
Kiron expands to Lebanon. 3,500+ students enrolled on the Kiron campus.
2019
+6500 students
Kiron Campus Android app launches. Greater contribution to shaping policy around digital higher education for refugees. Diversification of donor pool and more sustainable fundraising streams.
2020
Transition to social enterprise
Kiron transitions to a social enterprise by founding its for-profit subsidiary, Kiron Digital Learning Solutions GmbH (AKA Kiron Digital). Launch of Collective Impact Campus – a network of similar organizations that receive technology access to provide quality education for refugees and underserved communities worldwide.
2021
Extending impact
160+ nationalities in the Kiron student community. Launch of the first learning program in South America – Puente Digital.
2022
Towards sustainable futures
Shift towards learning programs designed for job market access. Start of a collaborative project to create NELE, a training platform for school educators.
2023
New frontiers
Kiron launches THRIVE to upskill 450 forced migrant women for job success. Match Talent, a co-initiative supporting international talent in Germany, launches.
2024
150,000+ learners
With a stronger focus on job market access and due to shifting funding priorities, Kiron streamlines its operations by closing offices in Lebanon and Jordan while continuing to support global learners through the Kiron Campus.
2025
Kiron at 10
Over 175,000 learners welcomed since 2015. 700+ women upskilled through THRIVE. 300+ learners trained in emerging technologies, including AI. 7,700+ learners supported with job coaching. 200+ partners, 1,000+ volunteers, and counting. A decade of impact celebrated!
2026
200,000 learners
Last year, more than 25,000 new learners were enrolled worldwide, bringing the total number of registrations on the Kiron Campus to nearly 200,000.
