Forcibly displaced women face some of the highest barriers to entering the labor market, especially in fast-growing, in-demand fields like data and tech. At Kiron, we’re working to change that through THRIVE, our upskilling program focused on digital skills, hands-on experience, and community support. THRIVE works to help close the gender gap and create real opportunities for forcibly displaced women across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
One key element helping our learners build real, job-ready skills is our partnership with DataCamp, a leading online platform for learning data and AI skills. DataCamp offers interactive courses in high-demand topics like Python, SQL, R, Power BI, data engineering, and AI, from beginner to advanced levels. Through the DataCamp Donates initiative, Kiron's THRIVE participants can access all DataCamp resources for one year, allowing them to choose their learning pathway, set goals, track progress, and study at their own pace.
For many in the program, the platform’s self-paced, practical structure is essential. “The course allows you to move at your own pace,” says Viktoriia. “Even if progress is slow, it helps build strong foundations in data analysis skills and professional vocabulary. I also love that you can rewatch lessons as many times as you need. If I don’t understand something the first time, I can go back and review it again. This flexibility is very helpful, especially when learning new or difficult topics.”
Viktoriia also appreciates the built-in support features. “One of the most helpful features for me is the built-in AI support. If you make a mistake, the AI quickly identifies the problem and gives you a helpful explanation,” she says. “Even if you get stuck, the AI assistance helps you move forward without frustration. This feature is incredibly useful and makes the learning process smoother. Also, the subtitles are a great support tool, especially if you’re not fluent in spoken English,” she adds. “Reading along helps me follow along and understand better.”
With over 580 digital upskilling courses available, learners like Viktoriia are becoming more confident using tools like Java, Google Sheets, Python, and more. “The SQL courses covered both basic and advanced queries with plenty of hands-on practice. I feel much more confident now in writing queries and understanding how databases work,” says Viktoriia.
Hands-on learning that builds confidence
Many THRIVE participants emphasize the value of being able to immediately apply what they’re learning. "It's possible to obtain basic skills very fast with Data Camp, and the option to work on different projects after completing the courses is very valuable for me,” says Nataly. Kseniia seconds this: "The Data Camp platform provides very high-quality educational materials, and most importantly, there's an immediate opportunity to practice the knowledge gained."
“Overall, I think DataCamp is a great platform for anyone who wants to learn data analysis from scratch or improve their existing skills,” adds Viktoriia. “The combination of structured lessons, interactive exercises, and AI assistance creates a positive and motivating learning experience."
With the support of partners like DataCamp, our learners are gaining more than skills. They’re building confidence, reclaiming their career trajectories, and shaping their futures in the tech sector. The current THRIVE cohort is on track to graduate this autumn, and we can’t wait to see where they will go next!
