Joining Kiron and finding a path to growth

Elmi and Abdiweli, two men living as refugees in Kenya, discovered the Kiron Campus at different points in their lives. For Elmi, Kiron was a chance to strengthen his education and professional skills. Upon joining, he had already gained extensive experience in digital marketing, graphic design, content creation, and branding, working with a range of clients and online businesses. “These experiences have allowed me to apply my creativity and communication skills in real-world situations,” he says. “Kiron stood out to me because it offers structured, recognized courses that enable you to study and grow, no matter your background or location.”

After a friend recommended the Kiron Campus, Abdiweli was intrigued by its accessibility. His own educational journey had been uneven, with limited access to learning resources and opportunities. “Despite these challenges, I remained motivated and continued learning whenever possible. I completed basic education and developed a strong interest in self‑learning, especially in digital skills and personal development,” says Abdiweli. “Kiron came at the right time by providing structured learning, guidance, and access to quality online education, which helped me continue my education with confidence.”

Despite the obstacles he faced, Abdiweli remains focused on building his future through education. “I enjoy learning, personal growth, and working toward independence and meaningful work,” he says.

Elmi on learning English with Kiron

For Elmi, the most rewarding opportunity offered by the Kiron Campus was improving his English to the C1 level. “Before joining Kiron, one of my main challenges was speaking and writing in English,” he explains. “I found it difficult to express my ideas clearly and confidently, especially in academic and professional situations. Limited access to advanced learning opportunities also made it harder to continue learning English in a traditional way.”

Through Kiron’s C1 English course, Elmi learned to communicate professionally, participate in complex discussions, and work confidently in academic and international environments. “Learning English has given me confidence, opened new opportunities, and strengthened my ability to connect with people from different cultures,” he reflects.

“It has become a strong foundation for my personal and professional growth. Kiron played a key role in helping me move closer to my long-term goals."

Abdiweli’s upskilling journey

Abdiweli began his studies on the Kiron Campus with the course Basic Digital Skills and How to Be an Online Learner, which equipped him with essential tools for digital work and online learning. “I learned how to use online platforms, manage documents, and communicate effectively,” he says. “The course also taught me how to study independently and organize my learning, which is very important for remote work and freelancing.”

“Learning with Kiron has motivated me to improve myself and gain more skills.” Looking ahead, he hopes to build a career in IT or business, confident he can apply his new skills in real-world settings, including remote roles. “With the knowledge and guidance from Kiron, I can achieve meaningful employment and create a better future for myself and my community,” he says.

Words of encouragement

Reflecting on their own journeys, Elmi and Abdiweli share advice for other Kiron learners. “Make the most of the resources, stay consistent, and keep studying,” says Elmi. “Every step you take in learning brings you closer to your goals. With focus and determination, you can achieve your dreams, creating opportunities for yourself and others.”

Abdiweli echoes this sentiment. “Stay motivated and take full advantage of the opportunities available. Even if learning feels challenging, every small step counts toward building skills and a better future,” he says. “Kiron gives us access to education and guidance that can help us achieve our goals, gain confidence, and prepare for meaningful work. Stay consistent, be curious, and never give up.”
