Kiron Open Higher Education gGmbH is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with the mission to enable access to high-quality education for refugees and underserved communities through digital solutions. Our team of Kironistas is international, agile and thinks out-of-the-box. We are education experts, techies, designers, project managers, communicators, grant writers, researchers, coffee-drinkers, innovators and dreamers, all united in our passion to democratize digital education.

 

In order to achieve our goal, we are looking for someone who will bridge the gap between our software development, our internal processes and data security responsibilities and obligations towards partners and in our projects.

As our new Information Security Officer…

… you will ensure that we handle student and other private data responsibly across the organization, whether through the Kiron Campus, external platforms, projects with our partners, operational processes, or internal IT setup. You will also be the liaison between Kiron and our external data privacy officer. 

 

 

You will own…

All processes that involve the handling of private data for our students/users, partners and internal stakeholders.

 

Internally, your tasks will include…

  • Ensuring GDPR compliance across all systems and processes.
  • Ensuring data privacy and competent handling for Kiron campus users.
  • Providing internal IT and data support.
  • Conducting data security audits.
  • Conducting internal data security and GDPR compliance training.
  • Working on legal documents, such as data processing agreements, VVTs and TOMs.

 

Working with partners and projects, your tasks may include…

  • Conducting security audit.
  • Systematic analysis of security tests.
  • Developing a roadmap for further development of external platforms securing functionality.
  • Develop a security concept for these platforms.
  • Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with data protection guidelines.
  • Assessing or responding to legal issues as they arise.
  • Managing of data sharing agreements

 

Internal stakeholders:  Product teams, Operations team / People team and project managers.

 

External stakeholder: Data Privacy Officer.

 

About you

To succeed and grow in this position, you will likely be:

 

  • An expert in information and data security.
  • A clear communicator, able to translate complex information into understandable language, set up clear guidelines and help stakeholders navigate these topics.
  • Proactive in identifying gaps in data security and taking ownership to resolve them.
  • Flexible and resilient, able to work on various tasks related to data security (IT, process management, legal/contracts) and interact with different stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented (e.g., ensuring accurate legal documents) yet able to keep a bird’s eye view of Kiron’s data and IT infrastructure.
  • Passionate about our mission to democratize education and protect our students’ data.

 

… and will likely have: 

  • Professional experience in data protection management, information security or similar areas. 
  •  A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Very good knowledge of English and German.
  • Outstanding IT and tech skills.

 

Ideally, you might also have: 

  • Fluency in Arabic
  • Have worked with a range of data (from employees to students, to partners)

This is what you can expect…

After your first month, you will complete the onboarding process and develop a good understanding of Kiron’s IT infrastructure and processes involving processing personal data.

 

After three months, you will take ownership of the topic of data security, critically evaluate existing internal policies and work on necessary adaptations and new policies in collaboration with the operations team, developers and other internal stakeholders.

 

After six months, you will have a solid understanding of data security in the context of Kiron, including in our collaboration with partners, and will lead the implementation of data processing policies within the organization.

 

After one year, you will have implemented robust data processing and data security systems within Kiron and for our projects.
